Soups

Newgate vegetable soup (Lidl)

three stars

Resembling a cross between a light tomato soup and a robust minestrone, this quite thick soup is very tasty. The pasta is in the form of macaroni and both it and the vegetables are quite soft. There was one small cube of vegetable which was fibrous and inedible but at 0.25 gbp per full size tin, that hardly matters. It seems to be the case that the more expensive a soup, the less likely it is to be vegan which makes a nice change from manufacturers robbing a minority market by charging extra for leaving out more expensive ingredients. A win for a small supermarket own brand
