Ice cream

Swedish Glacé

five stars

Available from various sources, this product is essentially ice cream made with soya milk rather than animal milk. It is very pleasant and is usually vanilla flavoured. I cannot compare the flavour with animal ice cream as I have no idea what that tastes like but I can say this product smells much nicer than the animal equivalent. For much of my life, this was the only vegan ice cream available although in recent times, I have been more likely to make my own in the machine

Alpro vanilla

four stars

A soya based ice cream with real vanilla flavouring. More expensive than the Glacé and for a smaller quantity, this product is aimed at the premium end of the market and it has a rich flavour. Rather more sweet than expected but no less delicious for that. It is edible straight from the freezer and makes a nice treat. It is now available locally

Alpro hazelnut chocolate

four stars

A soya based ice cream which is surprisingly pleasant and is more obviously chocolate rather than hazelnut in taste. The same price as the vanilla, this product is aimed at the premium end of the market and it has a rich flavour. Rather more sweet than expected but no less delicious for that. It is edible straight from the freezer and makes a nice treat. It is now available locally

Swedish Glacé chocolate

five stars

Everything one would expect from Swedish Glacé but with chocolate. Higher in sugar and salt than the vanilla version but chocolate is not meant to be healthy, it is meant to be eaten. I do not get the stimulant effect which some women get from eating chocolate but then if I did, i would stop eating it and that would be a shame as it has a pleasant taste
